Thomas Becket

This object commemorates the life of Thomas Becket through carved illustration. In a twist, Henry II, who is the antagonist in Becket’s story and in fact the cause of his death, is depicted and thereby commemorated as well.

This object relates to the Big Idea in a twofold way--the badge both commemorates the man Thomas Becket and the cult of veneration that surrounded him (including the act of pilgrimage to his shrine). This commemoration is achieved through artistic representation of Becket’s face.
