The Triumphant Byzantine Empire
Throughout the Byzantine Empire, the concept of "triumph" continued to be explored. Triumphs were not celebrations put on for fun--they were strategic expressions and advertisements of the ruling party’s authority over foreign lands and their own people.[1] In this section, you will encounter objects that express the continuation of triumphs, but also demonstrate changes that began to occur within the Roman theme.
