This collection is comprised of 13 bowls from the Medieval Asia. Picked from ceramics orginating in major centers of pottery in Asia during the era of the Silk Road, they tell a story about trade, communication, innovation, and design. One bowl in this collection (left) was an object that I picked from museum collections to study and understand as a part of Medieval history. As little information has been published about this specific object, there was a wider range of articles and exhibits that provided an understanding of the conditions that inspired the techniques and designs that make this bowl so distinctive. It is was difficult to formulate a narrative about this bowl without including the narratives of other ceramic centers and cultures that influenced its creation. The first bowl from my collection is a visual representation of the influence of cultures along the Silk Road, and the other bowls in this exhibit aid in telling that story.
